HISTORY NETS is one of the most stable composition and packaging houses in the industry, having operated continuously for over 50 years. Originally a hot-metal foundry, New England Typographic Service has evolved from hot type to VIP phototype to the desktop industry of today. We have actively contributed to the growth of digital typesetting. Well known for math composition, we have successfully converted from proprietary math typesetting to QuarkXPress and its XTensions, most notably PowerMath and XMath to produce the same quality documents that have been our trademark. We now offer full service packaging, including design, art production, scanning and imaging services as we continue to grow in the next century. We support full time graphic designers on two shifts, also utilizing a network of freelancers and El-Hi /College designers on call. Using this foundation, we have produced covers, ancillary designs, and component pages. Conceptual development across an entire program is executed with the team effort of these partners, making NETS a strong player in design implementation. Back to top TYPESETTING SERVICES Although market forces have confused professional typesetting standards, NETS has proudly carried the torch for the meticulous and complex craft of setting type. We continue to diligently train new hires on the art and discipline of formal typesetting. Uneducated eyes may not be able to distinguish the difference, but educated customers will accept no less. Our typesetting manager continues to push the boundaries of Quark composition as he has for over 25 years. Our technical support staff contiues to develop new methods of tagging Word files using XTags, Autopage, PowerMath, XMath, and Applescripts. We can now take your TeX and LaTeX files and convert them for import to QuarkXPress with the math equations in position. Back to top PAGE BUILDING AND COMPOSITION The tightest templates are produced by NETS. Trapping, stylesheets, color palettes, are all develope with the utmost care to detail. Our sample page masters are clean, and each Quark page is built efficiently and accurately, to insure proper production of each project. Our reputation is viewed most positively by printers and separators throughout the industry. Back to top TECHNICAL RENDERING Whether it is a cbar chart or a graphplot, NETS' fulltime, technical art department is responsible for a vast portfolio of technical artwork, emphasizing accuracy of data, style, and form. Using graphing calculators and the latest in art software, each equation is plotted to exacting coordinates. Back to top ILLUSTRATIVE ARTWORK In addition to our staff of digital and conventional illustrators, we continue to to work actively with many of the artist agents you have come to know and trust. We can work with your specs, or develop guidelines on your behalf, and manage the entire process from initial pencil sketches to final artwork. If you have a list of agents that you prefer to use, we would be glad to manage the process for you. We are constantly looking for new art sources and talents, and will track down a particular style for you. Back to top SCANNING With the recent addition of high-end color scanners, NETS now operates three scanners for line art, grayscale, and 4/c work. We can offer scans of both large art boards and ganged images, and will continue to provide a variety of digital and analog proofs to meet your approval needs and budgets. Full service high-resolution archiving and PDF/soft proof distribution are an integral part of our services. color corrections, cloning of images, silohuetting, and image manipulation are performed onsite as required. We also work closely with one of the largest digital photograph studios on the east coast and can manage your proprietary/licensing agreements. Back to top IMAGING NETS is proud to have typeset and produce the first college and EL-HI products to go to DTP (Direct-to-Plate). While others still talk about it, we embrace this new technology and continue to work actively with printers and prepress houses who are on the forefront. Our standard film imaging runs two shifts and weekends, producing fully electronically imposed 1/c, 2/c, and 4/c film for many of the finest publishers across the country. We can Misomex punch your film to your printers' specifications, insuring less prep time and accurate registration on press. Extensive preflighting of all files is handled at three stages of composition by imaging technicians, insuring a minimum of surprises during film production. Back to top REPURPOSING FOR THE NEXT GENERATION NETS is now working with existing Quark, Illustrator, and Photoshop files for repurposing them for the world-wide Web and CD/ROM. We can resample your images to Web specifications, redesign, and reorganize your printed pages for optimal screen readability and usage. We can add hyperlinks, hot buttons, interactivity and animation (Quicktime). We take full advantage of our online professionals to produce quality Web and CD/ROM documents with technical and mathematical information converted from your originals.
